Eloping in the the great outdoors? Here is a list of activities for before/after and during your ceremony.

So you have made the decision to elope? Good for you! I applaud anyone who does what is best for them and their partner. If a big loud wedding just isn’t your thing, then you are most likely super excited for it to be just you and your partner with a beautiful picturesque background plus your photographer.

Now what? You may be wondering what sorts of things do people even do during their elopement ceremony. And before. And after!

Here are some ideas to consider. These work whether you are eloping nationally or internationally.

Ideas for activities during your ceremony/elopement:

  1. Breakfast. If you’re doing a sunrise elopement, think about what kind of breakfast you could share together. A giant stack of pancakes? Donuts?

  2. Coffee OR coffee with a kick! It can be so cute to share a couple of steaming cups of coffee on top of the mountain, maybe with a blanket to cozy up together. Shoot, if you’re up for it, spice it up with a little Baileys. I won’t say a word! :)

  3. Charcuterie board or a full blown picnic. These are always so fun and you don’t even have to do the work. Ask me about vendors that will make you the charcuterie board of your dreams!

  4. Pizza cake & beer. I am a simple gal and I love my pizza. I have seen a trend of substituting wedding cake with pizza and I am so down. Beers to go along with it? Cheers!

  5. Hiking. This can be inevitable depending on your location. But it is ALWAYS in to wear hiking boots with your wedding dress when eloping. Just sayin’!

  6. Card reading. This one is so different. Have you thought about hiring vendors that are unique to what you two like. I suggest a card reader. Get your fortunes read to you as you tie the knot.

  7. S’mores & a campfire. Getting married during a chilly month? What is cuter than a s’more and makeout sesh as you say “I do?”

  8. Write and read your own personal vows. I am a sucker for those cute little vow books and all the emotions that come with personalized vows. I am teary eyed just thinking about it!

  9. Handfasting ceremony. This is when your hands get bound together in a sweet recognition of placing your soul in your partner’s hands forever.

  10. Letters from friends & family. Since your family will likely not be present during this special time, you could ask them to write a few meaningful lines that you can take turns reading aloud during the ceremony.

  11. Live music. I can’t help but think back to my recent Scotland elopements and imagine how cool it would be if we had someone playing the bagpipes. So I am adding this in hopes that someone reading this will hire one.

  12. First dance. Just because it is not a traditional wedding, first dance does not have to be out. Pick a song you both love. I will be happy to play it for you as you share your first dance together.

  13. Pop champagne. I am a HUGE fan of champagne pops. They are so fun in photos.

  14. Gifts. Exchange small (or big) gifts with your partner. This is such a sweet idea!

  15. Read from a favorite book, recite a poem or write a few lines from a movie you both love. Or sing, if that’s your thing!

Ideas for activities before or after your elopement:

  1. Tour the surrounding area with a guide. Chances are, you are getting married somewhere you two have never been before. Take advantage of the day before or after to check out the local area.

  2. Take a cooking class together. Learn to make local cuisine. If you haven’t done a cooking class with your partner before, I highly recommend!

  3. Catch the sunrise or sunset.

  4. Go star gazing together.

  5. Schedule a helicopter tour.

  6. Schedule a train journey.

  7. Enjoy a local wine or distillery tour.
